4.1 The response spectrum concept

One of the main topics of interest in earthquake engineering is the response of man-made structures which are excited by seismically generated ground motion. In this context, it often suffices to represent buildings as damped single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) oscillators which will lead to the concept of response spectrum.
